Renovations Complete at Pleasant Street Apartments

The Champlain Housing Trust (CHT) and Housing Vermont joined funders, residents and others on July 27 to celebrate the completion of nearly $1.4 million in improvements to the 24 affordable apartments on Kennison Drive.

“One of our major goals was to minimize future energy costs,” said Housing Vermont Vice President Kenn Sassorossi. “We also wanted to use regional renewable resources. Using wood pellets to provide heat and hot water allows us to do both,” Sassorossi said.

Housing Vermont and Champlain Housing Trust Celebrate Opening of Blake Commons

About 40 area residents, local officials, funders, and others joined Housing Vermont and the Champlain Housing Trust on June 23 to celebrate the opening of Blake Commons, a 16-unit affordable rental complex in Swanton.

“Blake Commons creates 16 sorely needed affordable apartments which will benefit current and future generations,” said Kathy Beyer, Housing Vermont’s VP for Development.

The members of Housing Vermont met on June 10 to elect Molly Lambert to fill a vacant seat on the Board of Directors. Ms. Lambert is currently the USDA Rural Development State Director for Vermont and New Hampshire.

Johnson Community Housing Celebrates Groundbreaking

Area renters and the construction industry will benefit from the new apartments now under construction in Johnson on the School Street site formerly owned by the Vermont Electric Cooperative. The $6.3 million Johnson Community Housing development will construct 10 apartments for seniors and 14 apartments for families. The project, developed by the Lamoille Housing Partnership (LHP) and Housing Vermont, will also rehabilitate two duplexes located at 334 Lower Main Street and 71 Mack Mudgett Drive, all in Johnson.

Grand Opening and Re-dedication of West Brattleboro's A.W. Richards Building

While the exterior of West Brattleboro’s A. W. Richards Building may look unchanged, that belies the extensive renovations which have transformed the former commercial building into 21 affordable apartments while retaining 7,130 square feet of commercial space.

Brattleboro Housing Authority Executive Director Chris Hart hailed the creation of 21 new apartments during her remarks at Wednesday’s ribbon cutting ceremonies.
