Vermont Rural Ventures Closes Second NMTC Deal

Senator Sanders Delivers Keynote Address at Windsor Groundbreaking Celebration

It may have been cold and snowing outside, but the temperature and spirit in Windsor Village’s community room was decidedly warm as Senator Bernie Sanders keynoted the January 21 celebration of the start of extensive renovations to the historic complex.

Housing Vermont President Nancy Owens introduced Senator Sanders to the room full of residents, local and state officials, and construction workers. Nancy thanked Senator Sanders for his long-time support of affordable housing, seniors, and thoughtful energy policies. She announced that the Senator had secured a $243,500 HUD grant which will be used to make the facility more energy efficient.

John Vogel Joins Housing Vermont’s Board of Directors

John Vogel Jr. has been elected to the Board of Directors of Housing Vermont.

“John’s substantial experience in real estate and nonprofit management will contribute much to the work of the Housing Vermont Board of Directors,” said Board Chair Barbara Grimes. “I know that the staff and Board look forward to working with him,” Ms. Grimes said.

Nearly 500 people attended the biennial event, hosted by the Vermont Housing Finance Agency.

HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan Meets With Affordable Housing Leaders

HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan met with a small group of affordable housing leaders on November 17 prior to his keynote address the following day at the Statewide Housing Conference. Senator Bernie Sanders hosted the event via interactive television at his Burlington office. Housing Vermont President Nancy Owens and VP Kenn Sassorossi were among the dozen and half nonprofit developers, housing advocates and public officials who met with Secretary Donovan for more than two hours.
